Project 365 – Days 29 & 30: Still life in the studio, and a 400mm test

In my Intermediate Digital Photography class last night, I got to use a modeling light to do a still life shot. I decided to use a piece of the photo lab itself as my backdrop, hence the iMac. My friend also let me use his Canon T3i and slinky to go along with my 75-300mm, 18-55mm and 35-80mm lenses. I thought it came out kinda cool.

Today’s picture is just random tree branches. I stepped out my front door with a Sigma 400mm f/5.6 lens on my camera to test its functionality. I can only use it on the lens’ smallest aperture. But that’s probably all I’d ever need if I were to ever use the lens.

Project 365 – Day 28: Morning photography, since I was up since 3:30 a.m.

January 28 2013

So this morning I got up at 3:30 a.m. I spent a few hours reading before getting up to shower. After that I was in and out of the house snapping photos of the sky, trees and some geese that flew overhead.

I liked this silhouette of the tree in our yard, so there you go. Picture for the day.

Project 365 – Day 27: I’m actually reading for class

January 27 2013

I will admit, I get pretty damn good grades. High school was a bit hit-and-miss, with my end result having graduated but my GPA showing it was a bit more “miss.”

In college? Very much hit. I’m started to earn more A’s than B’s, my GPA is hovering just under a 3.5, soon to be bumped up.

People would be shocked to learn that I don’t really read my books very often. I skim sometimes, but for the most part I rely on lectures in class and good test-taking skills. I read for classes I enjoy, psychology and journalism, mostly, but even then I get bored.

I decided that I’d start doing better about reading this semester, since I’m not as comfortable with the classes I’m taking and I really want to raise my GPA before transferring in a year and a half. I finished the first chapter of my Physical Anthropology book, complete with a page of notes and everything. That picture was taken within the first half of what I needed to read.

Project 365 – Days 25 and 26: Kendama in the dark (power outage, woo!)

January 25 2013

I got this “Kendama,” and I had no idea what they were called or that they were so popular before I was bought one. I’ve only seen a couple of people with them, but my cousin assured me they’re pretty popular in high school. It’s pretty amusing, and wasted quite a bit of time the day after I got it.

January 26 2013

This is a picture of my bedroom, and as you can see, my bed is not made. It usually isn’t. I just don’t bother, really. It gets messed up anyways, and I tend to sit on it on my laptop or watching TV, since it’s more comfortable than sitting at my desk to do said things.

I took this picture during a power outage last night, in which I spent the nearly hour and a half playing with my Kendama and generally sitting around with just the lamp for light.

Project 365 – Day 24: Madden 13 on XBox 360

January 24 2013

I totally fell asleep before I got to post my picture yesterday. I decided to do Madden 13 and my XBox controller since I was playing it before I fell asleep. My friend ended up beating me by three. Blah!
